The Highway Department maintains 78 miles of town roads, plows them in winter and keeps ditches and culverts clear. Report a road problem by calling (555) 555-0145.
Snow and ice
Plowing starts when two inches of snow have fallen. School bus routes and hills are cleared first, then all other town roads. State and county roads are plowed by their own crews.
- Keep vehicles off the road during storms so plows can pass.
- Do not push snow from your driveway onto or across the road; it is against state law.
- Mailboxes damaged by direct contact with a town plow are repaired by the town. Damage from thrown snow is the owner’s responsibility.
Driveways and culverts
A highway work permit is required before any work in a town right-of-way, including a new driveway or culvert. The Highway Superintendent will look at the site and set the culvert size.
Brush and leaf pickup
Spring and fall pickup dates are posted as notices. Stack brush at the roadside with the cut ends toward the road; bag leaves in paper yard-waste bags.
